Seems like Yahoo is getting less and less popular..as actual as Lycos is, it is really bad to think about what search engines are most popular.

Now shocked about AV move..we will see. But the screenshot at their homepage looks, eh, terrible. Look for their press release at their homepage.
Wolfgang .wolf Bromberger has been around online since 1996. He started to get into web design after he and some other students developed a concept for the online presence of their home town, Salzburg in Austria, a site Bill Gates used years later as a good example of e-government (as still not nearly all points of the concept have been made reality, .wolf disagrees).
Being interested in search engines and information systems, .wolf specialized in search engine optimization, online promotion and analysis.
.wolf was one of the founding fathers of evolt.org
He is working for Kreiseder.com and can also be reached there.
He is always interested in learning new programming or other web related skills, when time permits.

I thought this was odd at first, since Lycos is basically a third rate search engine. (Really, does anyone every use it except as their fifth choice or to search for graphics?) But to quote the Infobeat article: "Lycos is a network of different services, including the Tripod and Angelfire online communities, the HotBot search engine, the Wired technology news service, and the Suck.com collection of commentary on media and culture." In other words, on any given day, Yahoo! is still more likely to register more users than all of those sites combined. That's insane.

Yeah, but don't forget that Yahoo! owns now Geocities.. seems all to be about community to get hits. But you are right, it is insane ;-)! Regarding Lycos, no, hardly, not even for graphics, there are others, better ones, I think. But to get to the point: I think either most newbies go there or advanced newbies, but not professionals, at least that is what I think. Anyone?

According to the news media, the Media Metrix measurement on which the Lycos ratings are based do not include all the domains in the network until mergers and such are complete OR if the company asks them to include it. Lycos asked, Yahoo didn't. Yahoo's other sites include GeoCities and Broadcast.com (as well as already included sites like the former four11.com). I use Yahoo a lot, but mostly for news. Ever since they stopped using vicinity for maps and altavista for web searches, I've used those parts of their sites a lot less.
